Architecture & Interior Design

DVA Architecture provided architectural and interior design services for Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s new $24.9 million PreK-8 school, which serves as a gateway to the vibrant Larchmere neighborhood on the city’s East Side. Sunbeam School, founded in 1921, now houses approximately 515 students, many with significant medical, orthopedic, and developmental needs.

Our team designed an inclusive and ADA compliant educational environment with unique programs, such as an accessible indoor Therapeutic Swimming pool, a Kinesthetic Learning Studio for physical therapy, a Sensory Room, Speech Therapy Rooms, a Braille Media Workroom, a Media Center, Extended Learning Areas (ELA) for small group work and collaboration, as well as a Health Clinic, which features an Exam Room for doctors and other health practitioners to provide services. Twenty-first Century learning elements, such as flexible classroom furniture and learning spaces, were utilized throughout the facility. Sunbeam School was designed to meet LEED Silver certification and was built in accordance with the Ohio School Design Manual (OSDM)
